Data Science and Analytics
Overview
The modern world operates on a massive amount of data - from smartphones to smart homes. Individuals, companies, and devices have become data producers, creating enormous volume of information every day. Data science is the field that exploits data to extract insights, solve real-world problems, and drive innovation. Mastering data science requires a broad and adaptable skill set. This program provides students with a foundation in the essential disciplines of computer science, statistics, and mathematics relevant to the analysis and processing of large, complex datasets. Students will be exposed to both the practical application of data science methods as well as the theoretical properties underlying the performance of methods and algorithms. Through this curriculum, students will develop critical analytical and computational skills necessary to manage, interpret, and derive meaning from data. The program goes beyond conventional statistical analysis, addressing the full data lifecycle—from specification, acquisition, and cleaning, to storage, modeling, visualization, and data-informed decision-making. Graduates will be prepared to apply data science tools to complex problems across diverse industries and contribute to data-driven strategies in business, technology, and public policy.
